Control4 and The Hunter Group Provide Home Automation for the Wired Livinghome From Wired Magazine and Livinghomes

A Showcase in the Best of Technology, Sustainability and Design

LOS ANGELES, CA – November 5, 2007 - Control4, the leader in affordable IP-based home control and entertainment systems and one of its Los Angeles dealers, The Hunter Group, have been selected by WIRED Magazine to provide the whole-home automation system for the first-ever WIRED LivingHome. Located in the Crestwood Hills neighborhood of Los Angeles, this modern, pre-fabricated, luxury residence serves as an example of how people can effectively balance high technology with green living and high design. The WIRED LivingHome will be open to the public for tours in early November and tickets can be purchased online at www.wired.com/promo/wiredlivinghome.

“WIRED selected Control4 because of their leadership in home automation,” said Jay Lauf, Publisher of WIRED magazine. “Control4’s modular approach to home automation makes the category much more interesting and accessible to the ‘wired’ audience and perfect for this unique project.”

TECHNOLOGY

Control4 and The Hunter Group are installing cutting-edge automation technology throughout the home with a focus on simplicity. Control4’s platform enables home theater control, multi-room audio, smart lighting, temperature control and security to all work together through both in-home and over-the-web remote control technology.

“Participating in this terrific blend of technology, sustainability and design has been a fantastic opportunity as we collectively demonstrate the future in new construction and its unlimited possibilities,” said Eric Smith, CTO of Control4. “The experience of automating this cutting-edge creation, together with one of our leading dealers, enabled us to pioneer some unique wired and wireless installation techniques and applications.”

For the media room, Control4 has brought together a number of partners to showcase home theater control and multi-room music, including Pioneer® Elite® Blu-ray Disc® Player; Moxi® HD high-definition digital media recorder; Sonance Architectural Series™ speakers and amplifier; a Denon® AVR-2808CI Surround Sound Receiver; Omnimount® TV Mounts and a Pioneer® Elite® KURO 60” Flat Panel Display. All this equipment is nicely tucked away in the control room in an Engineered Mounting Solution from Middle Atlantic Products®.

“Our overall goal is to demonstrate how Control4’s smart home technology is affordable and easy-to-use and perfectly suited for unique custom situations like the WIRED LivingHome,” said Steve Hunter, President of The Hunter Group.

“Control4 is revolutionizing this market by providing technology that serves as a platform to control and automate all aspects of a home, fitting the needs and lifestyle of the consumer.”

The home also features an array of innovative personal electronics, such as an iPort® Music Player. GE® Security is providing a state-of-the-art residential security system; Panasonic® IP cameras provide monitoring of the nursery and front entrance and ICE Cable Systems, an innovative manufacturer of Green cable technology, provided the RoHS compliant structured wiring for the home.

Control4’s platform enables energy savings by enabling consumers to regulate the forced hot air radiant heating and cooling system through creative programming, from any room in the house or remotely via a web interface. Additionally, the WIRED LivingHome is equipped with LED lights that consume less energy than conventional light bulbs and coupled with Card Access In-Home occupancy sensors that will all be controlled by Control4.

MELDING PRE-FABRICATED CONSTRUCTION WITH CUSTOM HOME AUTOMATION

The WIRED LivingHome consists of 11 modules that were built in a factory and then shipped and assembled on-site. Since access inside the walls of the home was not an option, Control4 and the Hunter Group worked together to design a flexible conduit system that runs from the central control system to the various areas of the home. The conduit needed to be installed as part of the prefabrication process and was snapped together as the 11 sections of the home were put into place. This innovative wired system, combined with the Control4 wireless products based on Wi-Fi and ZigBee networks, made home automation possible in this type of construction.
