Control4 OS2.1 Software Platform Introduces New Features Designed to Support Dealers

The latest home automation software release from Control4 also offers the most advanced set of diagnostic tools to date and the ability to create custom themes for user interfaces.

Salt Lake City, UT – September 1, 2011 – Control4, a leader in affordable IP-based control and entertainment systems, announced the next generation of its Operating System. Control4® OS2.1 now features new advanced diagnostics, a new upgrade manager for easier and faster installs, and the ability to create custom user interfaces for their customers.

Offering enhanced performance, stability and customization, the next generation of the Control4 OS2.1 platform delivers a host of new features including an intuitive set of diagnostics tools, called Detective Suite, that make installing, configuring and programming Control4 simple and profitable.

The new Detective Suite, features the Programming and Bindings tools to intuitively find sub-systems and devices, plus document and track all devices with programming and system bindings. Two diagnostic tools were developed for intuitively troubleshooting IP-enabled devices as well as ZigBee wireless devices. Performance Detective allows installers to gauge the heartbeat of all IP addressable devices on the network at a glance they can quickly see if a specific device is causing latency. The ZigBee Detective measures that same heartbeat for all ZigBee devices on the wireless mesh network to quickly see if the system is optimized or if the network is overstretched.

OS2.1 allows for greater third-party integration through a Flash-based software development kit and enables the creation of various specialized, feature-rich applications for control, security, entertainment or just plain fun. Just as apps can be downloaded to a smart phone, the Control4 4Store application marketplace gives installers the ability to add functionality and improve the overall control experience for their customers’ smart homes with apps like Eragy® Energy Management, Remote Finder, Pandonos, Movie Guardian, Web Radio, Door Lock, Vacation, Control4® Equalizer and many more.

OS2.1 also now allows dealers and developers to design and create customized user interfaces using the Themes SDK. The process is very simple and cost-effective compared to other control solutions, meaning that Dealers can give their customers unique interface screens in every room of the house at a nominal cost. Themes are delivered to Control4 touch screen and on-screen navigators through the 4Store.

Some of the other new features in OS2.1 include:
• Custom Buttons—Easily create custom buttons on the GUI for tasks that are commonly performed by the homeowner.
• Localization Support—Now supporting over 20 languages.
• Photo Screen Saver—Synchronized photos on all screens in the home.
• Pool Control—Simple integration for the most popular pool controls, Jandy and Pentaire.
• Thermostats—New vacation-mode functionality for the user interface.
• Zone Page—Improved compilation of analog-to-digital sources for zone control of audio to capture a broad range of source combinations.

There is no charge for updates to Control4® systems that are already on the OS2.1 platform. Legacy Control4 systems that are on version OS2.1 can be upgraded to enjoy all of the features and benefits of OS2.1 for a nominal fee. OS 2.1 is a CEDIA Lifestyles Awards finalist.
